Wireshark Network Protocol Traffic Analyzer Application

Wireshark is a free open source network traffic analyzer software for Linux, MacOS, Solaris, FreeBSD, NetBSD, and Windows. Wireshark gives you a detailed level of what’s happening on your network. Supports over 100 protocols, filters, live data capture, and offline analysis of data. Supports Ethernet, IEEE 802.11, PPP / HDLC, ATM, Bluetooth, USB, Token Ring, Frame Relay, and FDDI network types.

Another important feature is the ability to export network data to XML, PostScript®, CSV, or plain text files and read gzip-compressed files. It also comes with strong decryption support for some protocols such as IPsec, ISAKMP, Kerberos, SNMPv3, SSL / TLS, WEP, WPA / WPA2.

Install Wireshark on Ubuntu Linux

Wireshark can be installed from the official Ubuntu Universe repositories PPA and flathub. Open the terminal console application ctrl + alt + t and run the following commands one at a time to install Wireshark.

sudo add-apt-repository universe
sudo apt install wireshark

sudo wireshark

Simply select your network and click the capture button to start your analysis.

Wireshark Traffic Analyzer

Install Wireshark via PPA.

You can also use the official Ubuntu PPA to install the latest version of Wireshark. Run these commands in your terminal to add the PPA and install Wireshark.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wireshark-dev/stable
sudo apt update
sudo apt install wireshark

Install Wireshark via Flatpak.

First, install flatpak and flathub on your system. After installation, run it under the Wireshark flatpak installation command.

flatpak install flathub org.wireshark.Wireshark

Then use this command to run Wireshark.

flatpak run org.wireshark.Wireshark
